adobe, certifications, web development certifications, exam,For years, it was believed that as a developed you do not need to be certified. After all, developers have it easier than networking professionals: they don’t need a credential to prove their skills as they have their portfolio instead. Yet, as IT industry gets more advanced and job competition grows more fierce, certifications for web developers tend to gain more weight. So now even talented developers should consider adding a formal credential to their resume and star-worthy portfolio.

Recently, a popular IT learning website, Tom’s IT Pro has published its selection of top web certifications for 2015 . What do we see here? According to the website, web developers will be best off if they pick one of the following certifications:

  1. ACE: Adobe Certified Expert
  2. MTA & MCSD: Microsoft Developer Certifications
  3. Zend Certified Engineer PHP
  4. Mark Lassoff’s Certified Web Developer
  5. W3Schools Web Certifications: HTML, CSS, JavaScript & More

As it’s easy to notice, there are only two widely accepted brand names that ring bells to a wider audience: Adobe and Microsoft. Does this mean that the remaining certifications are bad? Not at all. They all have their scope and smart blueprints, so they might be a great way to step up your web development skills. Yet, if it comes to getting your job application past screening, grabbing the hiring manager’s attention and securing the interview, then it makes a lot more sense to go with a big brand name, either Microsoft of Adobe.

Let’s take a close look at the ACE: Adobe Certified Expert credential.

ACE: Adobe Certified Expert

Adobe is the leader in software development, especially for graphics, design, publishing, video and interactive web development tools. The company’s new Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) certification covers a broad range of interactive and online content areas. You have an option of certifying on a single Adobe product, such as Dreamweaver, or achieve an ACE Specialist or Master certification, which would validate your competency in a few Adobe solutions.

The ACE Specialist tracks include Web Specialist, Design Specialist, Video Specialist, Rich Internet Application Specialist, Technical Communication Specialist and eLearning Suite Specialist. Each track has two or three required exams and candidate choose an elective exam.

The ACE Master tracks are CS Design Master, CS Web Master and CS Video Master (CS stands for Creative Suite). Candidates must pass the current exam for each product in the suite.

Adobe Specialist credentials:

  • Design Specialist
  • Web Specialist
  • Video Specialist
  • Rich Internet Application Specialist
  • Technical Communication Specialist
  • eLearning Suite Specialist

Adobe Master credentials:

  • CS Design Master
  • CS Web Master
  • CS Video Master

The great thing about Adobe’s exams is their reasonable pricing, especially compared to some other certification tests. Taking an initial Adobe certification exam will cost you $, and recertification is only $60. All Adobe credentials are valid for 2 years. Adobe also offers numerous resources for all of its exams, and the more popular elements of its exam portfolio are pretty well supported with aftermarket books, and information sources.
