To pazdak

I think the answer is "A" but i am not sure.

Seeing this post: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd548299.aspx

- For file transfers between hosts running non-embedded ESX Server (VMware® ESX Server 3.5, VMware® ESX Server 3.0.2) and Windows Server-based computers, will VMM use the default root credentials or a lower-privilege virtual machine delegate in ESX Server?

- if ESX Server is using the default root credentials as the virtual machine delegate, you must enable SSH root login on each ESX Server host

Later the Post says:
To avoid enabling SSH remote logon to the highly privileged root, configure a virtual machine delegate account for each ESX Server host.

1- The account must be a member of the Administrator role in ESX Server.

2- You must use the same delegate user (by default, vimuser) on all ESX Server 3i hosts that use the NFS datastore.

This answer is valid to option "C", but, if we need to ensure that file transfer operations are encrypted, we should use Secure Shell (ssh)

another opinion ???

Your network environment includes two Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V servers and one VMware ESX 3.5 host server. You are designing a Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2008 R2 implementation to manage your network environment. SCVMM must be able to perform management tasks that require file transfer operations between your VMware server and your Windows servers. You need to configure the ESX host server to ensure that file transfer operations are encrypted, and follow security best practices. What should you do? A. Use the default root credentials as the virtual machine delegate, and enable SSH root login. B. Use the default root credentials as the virtual machine delegate, and disable SSH root login. C. Create a new virtual machine delegate account, add the account as a member of the VMware Administrators role, and disable SSH root login. D. Create a new virtual machine delegate account, add the account as a member of the VMware Administrators role, and enable SSH root login.
Answer: D

In the dump there are 3 choices given as correct, I think that only 1 answer is correct though and that is:
'A private network on VLAN ID 10'

For the private network can not be configured VLAN (option disabled for this type of network)
I think it should be B&C

C. Create a new virtual machine delegate account, add the account as a member of the VMware Administrators role, and disable SSH root login.
D. Use the default root credentials as the virtual machine delegate, and disable SSH root login.
Answer: C

But I think it should be A (or B?) - with "enable SSH root login". What say you?

@wendy:

http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/kbase/VirtualizationTips/ServerVirtualization/MicrosoftHyper-VTips/Security/DosandDontsofEncryptionwithHyper-V.html

Encryption of any sort is typically a good practice to be in when at all feasible.

When at all possible, encryption adds a crucial layer of security to any operating system. Hyper-V is no exception to this, but there are some basic Dos and Don'ts to keep in mind when considering encryption as a part of your Hyper-V security strategy.

Do.Use BitLocker with a TPM Platform.
BitLocker is Microsoft's newest encryption solution and is quite powerful. BitLocker works with server hardware and ensures operating system and data integrity even if the server is physically powered off or if a hard drive is stolen.

Don't.Use the Encrypted File System (EFS).
Hyper-V doesn't support the use of EFS in locations where virtual machines are stored.

Do.Use BitLocker Encryption on the Host Operating System
Using BitLocker on the host system will not only secure its operating system, but it will also secure the virtual machine configurations and the VHD files themselves. Doing this, your VHD files will be encrypted regardless of their operating system.

Don't.Use BitLocker Encryption Inside Your Virtual Machines
BitLocker encryption is not supported within a virtual machine.

Do.Encrypt if You Don't Have a Reason Not To
BitLocker encryption is a really great security feature to have on your side. If you don't have a reason NOT to deploy BitLocker on your virtual hosts, then you need to. You can read more about BitLocker exclusively here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731549.aspx.

I'm studying for 693. For the question:

You are planning to deploy two Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V servers. You need to design the storage of VHD files for maximum security.

What should you do?

A.Store the VHD files on a dedicated NTFS volume.
B.Store unencrypted VHD files on a volume that uses Windows
BitLocker drive encryption.
C.Encrypt the VHD files by using EFS on a volume that uses Windows
BitLocker drive encryption.
D.Encrypt the VHD files by using EFS on a volume that does not use
Windows BitLocker drive encryption.

The suggested answer is B, but I don't think that is correct. The answer should be D, encrypt the VHD.

http://www.sans.org/windows-security/2009/11/17/bitlocker-attached-vhd-drive

By encrypting the VHD, no matter where it is located or backed up, it will stay encrypted.

If we have UNROUTED (and they all unrouted by default) Vlan11 (or 12 or 13 or whatever), and all target virtual machines are connected to this Vlan (newermind external or internal or private v-switch) - they will have connection to each other, but will be unreacheable from outside and v-host.
So answers with Vlan11 also correct, and Vlan number is have no matter in this case.

The question: Your network contains a Hyper-v host that runs Windows 2008 R2. The host is connected to VLAN ID 10. For testing purposes, you plan to deploy several virtual machines on Host 1. You need to recommend which virtual networks must be created. The solution must ensure that the VMs can only connect to other VMs. Whchi configuration or configurations should you recommned? (Choose all that apply).

In the dump there are 3 choices given as correct, I think that only 1 answer is correct though and that is:

'A private network on VLAN ID 10'

because the question states: 'VM's can only connect to other VMs' - any other options will involve communication with either the host or the wider network

The answer to this one has to be

  • Dec 21, 2011
  • Vector

  • Dec 21, 2011

2Kal El:
1. MAP is correct one. Sure
2. Computer4 - WXP - 1 FAT32 Volume. For FAT32 Volume only Offline P2V conversion available since it have no VSS.
3. Server4 and Server5 is correct ones. Because R2 and because both Intel (single manufacturer rule)
4. VECD can be purchased without SA. It is two positions for VECD. With and without SA. Upgrade to W7 is more expensive way
5. Snapshot the WM. Maybe i did not correct all similar questions. but right one - with my comment.
6. About Virtual Server2005 is a little bit tricky question. In my practice i was able to manage VS2005 not R2 with SCVMM2008R2. So i decided to answer with support it.
7. Here you right. Number of licenses. I looked for cheapes way, not for minimal number of licenses.
8. App-V to manage. I corrected one similar question with explanations, and again forgot to correct another one.

2BlackHeart
Surely Snapshot is the right one.

You configure a Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V server with several virtual machines.
A software vendor releases a software update for an application that runs on only one of the VMs.
You need to plan a strategy that enables you to install and test the update without interrupting

application availability and without corrupting data.

What should you do first?

A. Create a snapshot of the affected VM.
B. Enable the Windows Volume Snapshot Service on the Hyper-V server.
C. Export the VM
D. Enable the Windows Volume Snapshot Service on the affected VM.

Your answer is C.

This cannot be C, since export cannot happen while VM is running. Answer should be A.

  • Zak

  • Dec 21, 2011

Apologies - on 4 again - Vector is correct, I was wrong (I was getting mixed up with the live export capabilities that are around in XenServer and VMware) Hyper-V the VM does have to be shut down to export so the answer has to be a snapshot

  • Dec 21, 2011
  • zak
  • United Kingdom
  • Dec 21, 2011

apologies - I made a type in 4, it should be:

4 - The answer is definitely C as Vector says if you create a snapshot and then deploy the update and there is an issue then you run the risk of interrupting the app availability and corrupting data (even thought you can role the snapshot back you risk interrupting availability). An EXPORT will provide a totally independent test environment with no risk to the live app environment

  • Dec 21, 2011
  • zak
  • United Kingdom
  • Dec 21, 2011

5 - I think you're right, VECD is only for SA customers, for non SA customers it has changed to the VDA licensing model
6 - This one confuses me - I think server 4 and server 5 are the most likely candidates - you cannot live migrate across AMD/Intel (which is what you are doing with any of the other options) due to the chipset differences it can't happen - you can however live migrate between different intel processor models - see following link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/Video/ff711437
7 - I don't think you can because of the FAT OS and because it's not SP3 (this is a bit harsh of MS as officially they don't support XP below SP3 or Win2K anymore) Below link shows list of OS's that are supported for P2V conversion: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc764232.aspx
8 - Hmm, I think you may be right, BUT, if you have SCOM 2007 deployed as well as SCVMM 2008 R2 then you can use the ‘Vrtualization Candidate Report' which takes historical data from SCOM and then recommends P2V candidates. Again, this is a bit of a harsh question as in theory both options could be correct. I think when you take the exam on this one you just read the scenario - if SCOM is deployed then the answer is SCVMM, if it isn't then MAP

Hi Kal El,
My thoughts on the below are:
1 - I agree, the answer needs to be App-V, the current version of SCVMM is not capable of managing apps
2 - Again, I agree, the answer should be C as you correctly quote ‘using the minimum number and type of licenses'
3 - This one I can't make up my mind on my guy instinct though is that the answers are B & E
4 - The answer is definitely C as Vector says if you create a snapshot and then deploy the update and there is an issue then you run the risk of interrupting the app availability and corrupting data. A snapshot will provide a totally independent test environment with no risk to the live app envirponment

Hi Vector,
First of all, thank you for your initiatives. I do however have some questions to clarify further.

1. You need to recommend a technology to deploy & manage updates of App2 for sales users. The

solution must meet the company's business requirements.

What should you recommend?
A. MED-V
B. SCVMM
C. App-V
D. Microsoft Update

Your answer is B. Can SCVMM manage Apps? If i'm not mistaken, SCVMM 2012 is capable of doing that,

but the current version is not.

  • Dec 21, 2011
  • Kal El
  • Malaysia
  • Dec 21, 2011

2. You plan to deploy a fault-tolerant virtual infrastructure based on Hyper-V. The virtual

infrastructure will include a two-node Hyper-V host cluster that will contain eight virtual machines

(VMs). All of the VMs will run Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. If one of the nodes fails, the VMs

must continue to run on the other node.
You need to indentify the MINIMUM NUMBER and TYPE of Licenses required for the planned deployment.

What should you identify?
A. 2x W2k8R2 Ent & 8x W2k8R2 Std
B. 2x W2k8R2 Ent & 4x W2k8R2 Std
C. 4x W2k8R2 Ent
D. 8x W2k8R2 Std

Your answer is B. However considering the criteria being "minimum number and the type of licenses" I

would assume it should be C. because it fits the requirement(B=6lic whereas C=4lic). If, they state

minimum cost instead of number & type of license, then B would be correct. What say you?

------------------------------------------------------
3. Your network contains five virtualization hosts. The hosts are configured as shown in the

following table.

Server 1 - Microsoft Virtual Server 2005
Server 2 - VMware Server 2.0
Server 3 - VMware vSphere 4.0
Server 4 - Citrix XenServer Enterprise Edition
Server 5 - Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008

You plan to deploy SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1.
You need to identify which virtualization hosts you can manage by using SCVMM.

Which servers should you identify? (Choose all that apply)

A. Server4
B. Server3
C. Server2
D. Server1
E. Server5

Your answer is BDE, however considering SCVMM 2008 R2 supports only "Microsoft Virtual Server 2005

R2" can we safely assume that in this case, we can still manage it?

Can we not just create a snapshot of the affected VM? I remember in an earlier

similar question, you state that Freezing a VHD allows you to perform the test and continue to

maintain the VM availability.

5. Your company's network includes 150 client computers that run Windows Vista Business. The company

does not participate in the Microsoft Software Assurance Program.
You plan to implement a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) that includes 150 VDI Sessions.
You acquire three new servers that have four quad-core CPUs each.
You need to choose the appropirate licenses.

Which licensing solution should you choose?

A. 150 Windows Virtual Enterprise Centralized Desktop (VECD) Licenses
B. 150 Windows Vista Business Licenses
C. 3 Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter licenses
D. 150 Windows 7 Professional Upgrade licenses and Software Assurance.

You answer is A. However for you to be entitle to VECD, you have to have the Microsoft Software

Assurance Program. Does it make sense if I choose D instead, since they already have Windows Vista

Business Linceses?

6. Your network contains five unused Hyper-V hosts. The unused Hyper-V hosts are configured as shown

in th following table.

Server1 - W2k8 - AMD Opteron
Server2 - W2k8R2 - AMD Opteron
Server3 - W2k8 - Intel Xeon
Server4 - W2k8R2 - Intel Xeon
Server5 - W2k8R2 - Intel Pentium

You need to identify whihc two servers can be used to create a Hyper-V host cluster. The Hyper-V

Cluster must support Hyper-V live migration.
Which server should you identify?

To answer, drag the appropriate server to the correct Hyper-V host Cluster in the answer area.

Your answer is Server2 and Server4. Considering that Intel Pentium is not a 64bit processor, correct

me if I'm wrong but I highly doubt that this can be the correct answer. If Server5 is an Intel

Pentium 4, then perhaps it makes a little more sense. I think the answer should be Server2 &

Server4.

------------------------------------------------------
7. Your network contains four computers. The computers are configured as shown in the following

table:

Computer1 - W2k8R2 Std - 1 NTFS Volume
Computer2 - W2k3 Ent SP2 - 1 NTFS Volume
Computer3 - W2k - 1 NTFS Volume
Computer4 - WXP - 1 FAT32 Volume

You plan to deploy the following:

-Four Hyper-V servers that run Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
-One server that has Microsoft SCVMM 2008 R2

You need to recommend a solution to perform P2V conversions of the computers. The solution must

minimize downtime on the computers.
What should you recommend.
To answer, drag the appropirate conversion type to the correct computer in the answer area.

Your answer is
Computer1 - P2V Online
Computer2 - P2V Online
Computer3 - P2V Offline
Computer4 - P2V Offline

Considering that Computer4 is a Windows XP and VMM can support both P2V Online and Offline, can we

select Computer4 - P2V Online?

Q: You need to generate a report that lists all of the computers in the domain that can be converted to Hyper-V hosts. The solution ust meet the company's business requirements. What should you use to geneerate the report?
A.SCVMM
B.MDOP
C.MAP
D.SCOM

Your answer is A for this Q. But I think it should be MAP instead. Correct me if I'm wrong, SCVMM do not have a capacity Planner built in but MAP does.

Indeed. just missed word STORAGE while answered :)
CSV or SAN is good answers. There is no live migration required. and for file and print services clustered we can use either CSV either SAN.

This one is certainly wrong. I think it should be Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) shouldnt it?

Question:
You plan to deploy two virtual machines to be configured as nodes in a failover cluster. The VM's will run file and print services. You need to reccomend a STORAGE solution for the planned deployment.

You have a failover cluster between the vm's. But it is asking for a storage solution right?

I have passed exam on monday with 876//1000. So i corrected answers as i think they should be and as i answered on my exam. That's why they are differ from other dumps.
But anyway - doublecheck the answers. I got only 876, so not all the answers still right.
I answered with my 3 year experience with production virtualization, but some questions still confusing me :)
